CHOOSING THE RIGHT LAMPSHADE FOR YOUR SPACE
Being brought up in restaurants, lighting has always been important to Alice and something that was spoken about often. It's something that completely changes the space through zoning and creating focal points and cosy corners.
We are often asked which size lampshade is best for a certain space, which lampshades to style with our bases, and how to choose the right patterns and fabrics. We hope this will help you to identify what's needed in your specific space and get some inspiration. Our Lamp Builder can help you to visualise how your lampshade will look with our lamp bases to make the decision a little easier.

SECTION YOUR SPACE
When working on a lighting plan for your space, we think its important to have both low level table lamps, mid level wall lighting and high level hanging pendants. In this instance, it's helpful to break your lighting circuits up to accommodate. Zoning a space in this way can help to break up larger rooms, making them feel more cosy and intentional.
For instance, this room has been split up into a sitting room area with sofas using low level lighting and the fireplace is framed with wall lights and an overhead lantern. The kitchen island features three pendant lampshades to highlight the entertaining and dining space.

FINDING THE RIGHT SIZE
We've got a helpful size guide on our website to aid in the selection of our different lampshade sizes. Here's a quick breakdown:
For wall lights we always go for the 6" candle clip, table lamp or pendant lampshade - particularly in bathrooms or beside the bed.
For bedside lampshades, our 12" or 14" size is best. We use these sizes with our Candlestick Lamp Bases for side tables around the home. If you're working with a small lamp base or bedside table, you can use our 10" size.
12" pendant lampshades are great to hang in a smaller bedroom or bathroom whilst our 16" and 18" lampshades are perfect for double bedrooms and larger spaces.
Our 16", 18" and 20" lampshades look fab on big lamp bases in entertaining spaces as well as standing lamp bases.

pattern and colour
Choosing the right style can feel like a daunting task. Think about how the new lampshade can complement textures and colours in your space to create balance.
We like to have a mixture of textural, organic patterns with something bold like a stripe to break it up. It's also useful to find a textile, wallpaper or paint colour that you like or already have and pick out a few colours from that or find a complementing colour to bring into the space.
If you're working with a more minimal palette, our lampshades are versatile enough to simply soften a space with some plain linen for a warm glow or to bring in a pop of colour and pattern.
This bedroom features our Red Inverse Palm Grove Lampshade. Using the inverse pattern of the wallpaper is such an easy way to create an effortlessly layered space. We opted for red to tie in the stripes and the bedside table. This also offers some pattern variation. The Ivory Candlestick Lamp Base softens all the colour and again ties in the cream in the lampshade.
