Athens travel guide

Athens is a trendy, up and coming beach city with so much culture and history making it perfect for long weekends away. Read on for a rundown of Alice's favourite spots that make it worth the trip.

LYCABETTUS & THE ATHENS RIVIERA

A great way of getting to know the city is to hike to the top of Lycabettus Hill. It's the highest point in Athens and perfect at sunset.

Lake Vouliagmeni and Krabo Beach on the Athens Riviera are great for sunbathing, swimming and having lunch and a cocktail. Simple and chic.

WINING & DINING

Wine is Fine is such a fun spot for natural wines accompanied by a thoughtful menu of small plates. The offering is always changing so keep an eye out for their chef residencies and events.

Panteboy or 'Rantevou' is a local bar-cafe offering traditional Greek dishes right in front of the square of Petralona. It's the perfect place to try new dishes you might not have got the chance to before.

lampshades galore

When walking around you'll undoubtably stumble upon lampshade shops such as this one providing plenty of inspiration from colours to shapes.

My top tip is to walk to the end of Ermou, a shopping street in the centre of the city, to find vintage shops.
